Position description


The Development Shared Services (DSS) Section of the Enterprise Technology Services Division of Mayo Clinic is seeking a full-stack developer to join our team through a full time Software Engineer position. We work closely with the Product Owners, Product Managers, Architects to design, develop, and hand-off working applications along with other development artifacts following an Agile Scrum approach. In this position, you would be designing and developing user interfaces, back-end web services, and database software. You would also be working with deployment and configuration management tools like ADO, Azure Pipelines, and Terraform, as well developing automated tests. See details below.
Additional responsibilities include ensuring all appropriate documentation of processes and source code is created and maintained. Communicating effectively with peers, leaders, and customers throughout the organization. Participating in expert level troubleshooting and resolving problems through root cause analysis, data and system investigation. Continuing to build knowledge of the organization, processes and customers.

In addition to the requirements listed below, required skills or experience for this position include:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly

  • Some experience with C# / .NET and and/or Java

  • Some experience developing server-side RESTful web services

  • Some experience in front-end development including Angular and/or React, JavaScript, and TypeScript

  • Some experience with databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, or Cosmos DB

  • Some experience designing, developing, and implementing automated unit and functional tests

  • Some experience in an Agile / Scrum or Kanban development environment(s)

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field; Or an Associates’ degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with an additional 2 years of experience as described below.
  • Have working knowledge and experience of Software Engineering with a minimum of internships and a minimum of 1 yr. of experience, or 2yrs of experience coding applications or services in a high-level language (C, C++, Golang, Java, C# etc.).
  • Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills.
  • Possesses strong technical aptitude for designing and implementing software solutions.
  • Experience with modern application development frameworks
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Deep hands-on technical expertise, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Agile software development techniques.
Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud-based services.
  • Experience with Google and Azure cloud environments
  • Experience in databases, analytics, big data systems or business intelligence products
  • Experience with building high-performance, highly available and scalable distributed systems.
  • Experience developing software for healthcare related industries.

License or certification
Google Professional Cloud Developer certificate is required within 24 months of hire.
